| Mike Mau - portrait by the talented Susan Murtaugh |
Michael Mau designs and handcrafts one of a kind furniture made to last for generations.
Michael has a degree in Visual Communications from the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay and a Masters Degree in Architecture
from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. While in architecture school, Michael was influenced by the works of architects
Tadao Ando, Frank Lloyd Wright, Renee Macintosh and LeCorbusier. Today his work is inspired by the sculptural joinery of Sam
Maloof, the elegant simplicity of Hans Wegner and the defined edges of Finn Juhl. Inspiration also comes from the natural
rock formations in the sea caves of Lake Superior, as well as, walking through the neighborhoods of Manhattan.
When not in his workshop, Michael spends all of his time with his wife and two sons biking the winding Wisconsin
roads, kayaking along the shores of Door County and the Apostle Islands, attending the boy’s swim meets and taking in
the culture of Milwaukee, Chicago and New York City.
